Quetzecoatl, more commonly spelled Quetzalcoatl, is a sky-god of Aztec myth and the creator of humanity. According to one myth, a night god, Tezcatlipoca, drove him into exile. The Aztec people awaited the return of Quetzalcoatl in the shape of a pale-skinned, bearded man; thus, when conquistador Hernán Cortés arrived, he was at first mistaken for the god. Quetzalcoatl also takes the form of a feathered snake. |

Shiva the destroyer is part of the highest trinity of Hindu gods, the other two being Brahma the creator and Vishnu the preserver. Unlike the beautiful ice-woman Square created, the Hindu Shiva is male and frightening-looking. Shiva has appeared in countless Square games, including FF5,6, and 7. |

Ifrits, more commonly spelled Afrit or Efreet, are gigantic, malicious Jinni, or Genies. Jinni are made of either fire or air; Ifrit is a creature of fire. Ifrit has appeared in many previous Square games, including FF5,6, and 7. |

A Siren is a creature with the head of a woman and the body of a bird. As a rule, they have beautiful voices, often used to lure sailors to their deaths. Siren has appeared in many other Square games. |

The Brothers are actually Minotaurs, creatures with bulls' heads and mens' bodies. In Greek mythology, King Minos of Crete kept a minotaur in a labyrinth fashioned by the master architect Daedelus. He sacrificed young men and women from Athens to the minotaur until the hero Theseus slew the beast. "Brothers" has not appeared in any previous Square games. |

Diablos is derived perhaps from Diablo, the Spanish word for devil, or from Diabolos, the Greek word. It refers to any devil, but most commonly to the Christian devil, Satan. |
